Why Collector Plates?

Glass and Fine China have always been treasured by the people of Southeastern Ohio. Having grown up in a town beside the "Glass City,"(Bellaire, Ohio) I grew up loving the delicate decorations coming from the area. But in the mid 1970's, I married into a family that came from the Pottery Capital of the World, East Liverpool, Ohio. They owned a small family pottery, Kass China, one of the multitude of small potteries existing among the giants of the pottery industry. My Mother-in-Law faithfully collected all the prized pieces by Homer Laughlin, Knowles, Taylor & Knowles, and Hall China, always busying herself studying known and lesser known pieces made by each company. Upon her walls were some of the most exquisite collector plates. Many done by artisans who originated from the town. A naive artist myself at the time, I fell in love with the idea of artwork displayed on collector plates. I always hoped that as I became more educated and accomplished in my artistry, that I would someday market my own drawings & paintings on Fine China and Glass. DLJ Art Memories has been a dream come true for me. As an artist, I am able to do just that. In this way I am preserving memories in the tradition of the artisans in the are of Ohio that my husband and I grew up. The potteries of East Liverpool have moved on, but the traditions still linger among those who have lived there.

Please re-add us to your Etsy circles

As fortune would have it, a scammer approached our Etsy shop and we reported him. He was account was deactivated , but in the process, ours was accidentally deactivated as well. When the situation was found out and reactivated, everything was restored except our circles. I have been trying to add all of you back in ours, but we am no longer in yours, either.

So very sorry for the confusion ~Deborah

"Those Were the Days, My Friend"

Recently I went to my Brother's 50th Birthday! Almost 5 years younger than me, I remember when he was just a toddler, following me around everywhere.

We had fishing poles made of long bamboo sticks that we used in the pond in the field in back of our house.  There we would sit for hours, just talking. We never caught any fish, because nobody ever decided to tell us there weren't any fish in the pond, just frogs!  As we grew older we went with my Dad out on the rowboat at Piedmont Lake, and we certainly did start catching fish. On family camping trips we would spend a quiet afternoon together fishing by the side of the lake.  Our favorite games were chinese checkers, Monopoly, Battleship and Rummy (Played with REAL cards - no computers back then!!!)

As we got older life got in the way of our times together, as life usually does.  But I don't think the fond memories were ever quite forgotten!  So what a great time the whole family had getting back together and celebrating good times we all had together growing up!

Happy 50th Birthday, Ed!
